HOLY COVID! It’s been a while! Welcome back to LifeofLG, my Lifestyle & Travel Blog. As you can see, since my last vacation and post in March, there hasn’t been much action on here….
I will be honest, I was very hopeful at the start of COVID that I was still going to be able to travel and explore a lot sooner. I never expected this to go on for so long as I’m sure you didn’t either! With that being said, I’m ready to get back to the Blog. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been exploring my province and country now more than ever. In fact, I spent the majority of my 2020 summer in BC at the beach and it was perfect in every sense of the word.
Coming back from BC, I’m so lucky that I have Canmore and Banff in my “backyard” only about an hour away. I’ve decided to focus more on local travel and exploring since there are so many cool things to do around here.
“Canmore began as a coal mining town in service of the Canadian Pacific Railway, but it has since become one of the most beautiful and enchanting towns in Alberta. This Rocky Mountain getaway is only a little over an hour’s drive from Calgary, which has made it an increasingly popular spot to spend a day, or even check in to one of the resorts and settle in. No matter how long you spend in Canmore, this things to do Canmore list should fuel your trip with experiences and treasures.”
Here are my TOP 4 THINGS TO DO IN CANMORE
1. HIKING- You’ve probably heard of the incredible hikes around this area if you’ve heard anything at all. Even those who aren’t hikers will enjoy some of these breath taking views! There are a variety of levels from beginner to mediate and even very difficult. My top suggestion is Grassi Lakes! It’s easy for families and most kids, make sure you are wearing runners and take some water, the views up there are stunning! This is considered to be a beginner hike, however, if you aren’t active or a hiker, just take your time and enjoy the outdoors.
2. KANANASKIS NORDIC SPA– This spa is next level incredible! Book a relaxing massage in the middle of the mountains and get a complimentary pass to the outstanding spa and pools. They also offer day passes if you would like to skip the massage and just go to enjoy the pools. This is all outdoors and very picturesque- no phones or cameras allowed as per their privacy act which I think is pretty unique.
3. LUXURY HOTELS- I don’t know about you but I love staying at hotels! It could be a vacation or even a stayaction and I still find it just as exciting. Canmore has some gorgeous hotels but so far, my most favorite is the stunning Malcolm Hotel. This hotel has the cutest little gift shop, coffee shop, a delicious restaurant, a fitness area, an outdoor pool and not one, but TWO hot tubs! I highly recommend the Malcolm for any person, couple or family.
4. ICE CREAM & CANDY- Yes, you read that right! Canmore has the coolest Ice Cream and Candy Store, not together but they are across the street from each other and equally as SWEET! Old School Bus is the best little Ice Cream shop in Canmore, it’s a yellow school bus that has been converted to an Ice Cream shop! Very cool vibes, and it’s outside so it’s even better. The Olde Tyme Candy Shoppe is the place to be if you have a sweet tooth. Think of all the fun candy we had growing up and all the treats that you miss…. take your kids there to show them what you grew up on.
