Let’s talk Foundation! Do you love or hate your current foundation routine? Are you asking yourself, “what’s a foundation routine”? If so, I’m here to help!
Foundation is the key to beautiful and flawless makeup. What you should use on your skin depends on if you have oily, dry or combination skin. You also need to decide if you want a natural, light, medium or full coverage. Different brands will offer different varieties. And the last choice…. dewy or matte?
For a natural look, you should be using a tinted moisturizer. This gives you the bare minimum, great for those of you with almost perfect skin who want to make it seem like they aren’t wearing anything at all.
Light coverage is great if you don’t have any texture, scars, redness, or discoloration. It will give you a light and natural even tone, but it won’t cover or correct any imperfections.
Medium coverage in my personal opinion is where it’s at, I think it’s the most popular of all foundations! Why Medium coverage? It covers most of the imperfect textures, any old acne scars and it REALLY balances out your skin. Smooth like butter (except it’s not butter, thank god)! I honestly use this even when I’m doing a full glam because it’s buildable yet easy to work with. During the day for work and such, I use this as well, but I do not build it up, I apply it once sparingly and it does the trick. I personally have tried almost everything out there and I always come back to Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. I always keep shades 4.75, 5 and 5.25 at home. Depending on the time of year and if I have a tan or spray tan I will mix them together to match my color.
Full coverage should be used when you have a lot going on with your skin. Great for people who have major discoloration, acne, acne scars, large pores, redness and a lot of texture. Some full coverage foundations can be a little harder to work with. It’s easy to make it look “cakey” even after only applying it once so just be careful. It can work wonders though and is used a lot as well. I have some friends with perfect skin who do use this just because they like to airbrushed look and are great at applying it. It’s all preference so there’s no real right or wrong answer. Only YOU will know what you like or, you will learn what you like if you haven’t yet. Also, most people don’t know this but you can exchange or return anything from Sephora if you use it once or twice and need to take it back. It gives you the freedom to try more products which I love.
Now there’s a lot more that’s paired with foundation of course, how to apply it, what concealer to use with it, what you use to set it, however, you’d be here reading for hours and I like to keep my posts short and sweet. Don’t worry though- I will probably do an application and concealer post in the future so keep following along!
